RIVERMEAD GARDENING

JOB DESCRIPTION

GARDENER

A gardener is required to work as part of a small professional and enthusiastic team.  We work to a very high standard in five very different gardens, all in the Bampton/Buckland area.  This is an opportunity for someone either with good basic gardening skills wanting to expand your knowledge and skills, or someone experienced and ready to take on greater responsibilities.  Our gardens are a mix of formal, informal, wildlife and large country estate.

Duties

Tasks will vary on a daily basis as determined by the Supervising Gardener and will include:

·                 Soil cultivation, digging, forking, planting, mulching, watering, feeding, spraying, raking, hoeing, weeding, edging, deadheading, pruning & training, propagation, seed sowing, potting- on, hedge cutting, and composting.

·                 Maintenance of shrub borders, herbaceous borders, woodland areas, pond areas, extensive rose gardens, walled trained fruit trees and pleached trees, vegetable gardens and green houses.

·                 Carrying out all aspects of ground maintenance in keeping with good horticultural practice to specified standards.

·                 To be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out     to comply with current Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

 

Qualifications/Experience - Minimum Requirement

·       Good basic gardening experience (can be personal)

·       Good basic horticultural knowledge

·       Desirable – RHS or ND Qualification

 

Personal Qualities/Abilities Required

·                 Adapt to different styles of gardening in order to suit different clients

·                 Follow horticultural instructions carefully in order to produce work to the highest standard, with the closest attention to detail

·                 Personal interest in and desire to improve horticultural knowledge

·                 Enthusiastic, self-motivated, hardworking, use of initiative and work tidily

·                 Able to communicate sensitively, politely and clearly with clients

·                 Fit and capable of strenuous work

·                 Ability to work in a team or unsupervised

·                 Proven reliability:  good and regular attendance with prompt time-keeping

 

Hours of work

Working hours from 9.00 – 15.00, until able to work unsupervised. Days to be discussed.
